- MASTER BARBER PROGRAM
- The 1500 hour Master Barber Program successfully satisfies Georgia’s state board requirements.
- The program will consist of the science of hair, haircutting, style techniques and additional barber theory.
- Students will be taught various tonsorial skills; including the use of shears, razor, and clippers.
- Prospective master barbers are also taught shaving, hair coloring, state board prep, barbershop management, and the history of the tonsorial (barbering) profession.
- Before students are allowed to provide barbering services (on live models) on the clinic floor, 280 total clock hours of training is required.
- After the student has completed the initial 280 clock hours, Tapers Barber Academy (TBA) will complete and submit a signed and notarized statement to the Georgia State Board of Barbers.
- The document will state that the student is properly prepared to advance to the clinic floor and execute barbering services on live models.
- The student shall then receive additional instruction; totaling 1220 clock hours,this will also include the required theoretical hours required by the Georgia Board of Barbers.
CROSSOVER PROGRAM
For licensed cosmetologists who want to obtain a Master Barber License without repeating a full 1,500-hour barber program.
Eligibility Requirements:
Must hold a current Georgia Cosmetology License
Program Hours:
450 hours (per Georgia State Board regulations for crossover)
Curriculum Focus:
Straight razor shaving techniques
Men’s haircutting and tapering
Fades, clipper-over-comb, scissor-over-comb
Beard and mustache trimming
Sanitation and disinfection (specific to barbering tools)
Barber laws and rules in Georgia
State Board shaving procedures (often the most important part)
Kit Includes :
Straight razor and blades
Clipper/trimmer set
Mannequin with facial hair
Barbering textbook (Milady or Pivot Point)
Outcome:
Prepares student to take the Georgia Master Barber Licensing Exam
Upon passing, the student receives a full Master Barber License
BARBER INSTRUCTOR PROGRAM
Purpose:
To prepare licensed Master Barbers to teach and train future barbers in an accredited barber school.
Eligibility Requirements:
Must hold a current Georgia Master Barber License
Must have at least 18 months of work experience as a Master Barber in a licensed shop (in most cases)
High school diploma or GED
Program Hours:
750 hours of instructor training (as required by the Georgia State Board of Barbers)
Curriculum Includes:
Classroom management and teaching techniques
Lesson planning and curriculum development
Student assessment and evaluation
Sanitation and safety instruction
Georgia barbering laws and rules
Hands-on teaching under supervision (practicum hours)
Student learning styles and motivation
Materials & Supplies:
Instructor kit (includes a Milady Instructor book, lesson plan guides, notebooks)
Teaching aids (e.g., PowerPoint slides, demo mannequins)
Access to classroom and student clinic floor for teaching practice
Outcome:
Qualifies the student to take the Georgia Barber Instructor Licensing Exam
Eligible to teach in licensed Georgia barber schools
